Reminiscences of grandchildren.
Allan Oliver- he remembers her as good hearted, always had shortbread and a lovely garden with pot plants everywhere. She was the greatest prize winner at the Goroke and Horsham shows with her jams, pickles, cakes etc. and had a tin trunk full of prizes. After moving to Horsham they travelled to the Goroke Show by train. They moved to Horsham because of her asthma- she had the last rites often. Granny got an Essex car when Grandfather died- Uncle Bill drove her. She used to do the washing on the side of the house, one day they heard a crash- a cat had an enamel jug stuck on it’s head. Bill kicked the cat until the jug was dislodged.
Jean Mills (Buffham)- She remembers her sitting outside at the tank, plucking chooks with boiling water.
Arthur Buffham- Lovely lady, very pretty and slimly built. She was always a bit asthmatic and won prizes at Shows for jams, cakes etc. She kept boilers in the bath full of cakes, he doesn’t think they bathed very often- they washed in a dish. She was senile for the last few years of her life.
Julie Macgill (Buffham)- she always wore a long black dress with long sleeves with a white lace collar even in summer. She always had seed cake and fruit cake on hand.
Moira Tinker (Buffham)- Granny made plum puddings every Christmas and put 2/- in each one, we would eat it until the 2/- was found and then wouldn’t touch it. I remember people coming after church- they were given wine in small glasses and seed or fruit cake. Granny had heart trouble, the doctor told her that brandy would help so she overdid this cure a bit. She was senile in later years and used to stand on the front verandah and call- “Cooee Mrs Buckley, they’re trying to kill me Mrs Buckley!!” Julia died in her sleep, she was 81.
