This recollection comes mainly from Ken Tinker and Joyce Mills(Tinker)
Francis Tinker (Frank)- the oldest child of James and Mary Tinker. He was short, bandy legged with a moustache and worked at the Warrnambool Gas Works probably as a stoker. He was a hard worker, worked seven days a week according to some family members. He was very strict, hard as nails, bad tempered. He wouldn’t argue, just let fly with whatever available. He threw a knife at Mary- she ducked and it just missed her. Another time she poked her tongue out at him, he saw her and she wasn’t game enough to come home. Mary was the youngest child of the large family. She badly wanted to go to work but her father wouldn’t allow this.
Wally’s arm was withered- this was due to Frank grabbing and throwing him. Frank used to cry about this when drunk. Joyce (granddaughter) remembered Frank sitting at the head of the long dining table with knife and fork ready. He treated his wife badly and his children were all frightened of him. He mellowed somewhat in later years and gave up drinking. He died in his sleep of a heart attack at the age of 72.
