He was christened Arthur Covossa but was always known as Donald Arthur. This was because his father registered him but his mother did not agree with the chosen name.
Donnie had brown eyes, high cheekbones, an angular face with wide flaring nostrils with a square chin. He was quiet and well spoken. He went to Mrs Bodger's private school and was quite clever. His father made him leave when he was legally able and took him droving with him.
He and Arthur (his nephew) used to whitewash McMillan and Norman's horses on New Year's Eve- they used to gget up to all sorts of pranks-changing gates around, ringing the old fire bell etc. He was a good footballer- played for the Diggers.
After going droving he went to the Butter Factory as an apprentice buttermaker. When he finished his apprenticeship he joined the Air Force. He was a wireless Telegrapher on an island near Darwin. After the war he did different courses to improve himself and ended up as General Manager of three butter factories in Tasmania.
Donnie married Marion Doran and had three children. He had a medical examination when he started as General Manager- it was found that he had Cancer of Lymph Glands. He died at 41. Tragically Marion died two years later- she had been sick since their youngest child was born. Wendy was five- her mother's sister brought her up.
